Public Hearing on Property Classification
The Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing pursuant to the provisions of Massachusetts General Laws on Tuesday, December 18, 2007, 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall, 11 Lincoln Street, to solicit public input on the issue of allocating the local property tax levy among the property classes for Fiscal Year 2008. In summary, the Board of Selectmen is empowered by Massachusetts General Laws to determine the percentages of the tax levy to be borne by each class of property for the fiscal year. The classes of real property are: Class One - Residential, Class Two - Open Space, Class Three - Commercial, Class Four - Industrial. There is also the class of Personal Property. At this public hearing, the Board of Assessors will provide information and data relevant to making a decision on allocating the tax burden
among the classes of property, including the fiscal effect of the available alternatives. Citizens wishing to be heard on this matter are encouraged to present written or oral testimony to the Board of Selectmen. Written comments may be submitted to the Office of the Selectmen, 11 Lincoln Street, Plymouth, MA 02360, no later than 3:00 p.m. on December 14, 2007.
