Description
INFORMATIONAL AND REFERRAL
Assistance in getting the proper help for solving personal problems is given daily at our center. Call 508-830-4230 for assistance.
NUTRITION
A hot lunch is served in our Senior Center dining room year round, Monday through Friday, between 11:30 - Noon, except holidays. Reservations are requested at least two days in advance. A Donation of $2.50 is requested.
MEALS-ON-WHEELS
Meals on wheels are delivered year-round, Monday through Friday under authorization of Old Colony Elderly Services (OCES) for elders who satisfy the criteria. Each request for this service must be evaluated by a social worker. For information, call OCES @ 1-800-242-0246.
WELLNESS PROGRAM
Activities include twice weekly sessions of Low-Impact Aerobic and Line-Dancing, Tai-Chi, YOGA, blood pressure clinics, diet and weight. For information call: 508-830-4230
HEARING TESTS
Given by a Hearing Consultant on the second Wednesday of each month at 10 Cordage Park Circle, Suite #108- 10:00 AM to 12 Noon by appointment only. Tests are given free of charge. Please call 508-830-4230 to make an appointment.
FOOTCARE SERVICE
A nurse provides a half-hour treatment for $27.00. Home visits can also be arranged. Please call 508-830-4230 for an appointment.
LEGAL ASSISTANCE:
A local attorney is available once a month, free of charge, for assistance with wills and personal legal problems. Other services are provided by Southeastern Legal Assistance Corporation concerning public benefits, housing problems, health issues, consumer protection, nursing home issues and elderly abuse issues.
S.H.I.N.E. (Serving Health Information Needs of elders)
This program provides trained volunteers to help elders understand their health insurance needs, review present coverage to prevent paying for unnecessary or duplicate coverage, help process health benefit claims, inform elders of their rights under Medicare and make referrals to various agencies when appropriate.
SOCIAL SECURITY AND SSI ASSISTANCE
Social Worker and Director work closely with Socail Security and SSI, therefore able to assit with applications and phone calls.
SOCIALIZATION ACTIVITIES
Special luncheons, birthday and holiday parties, arts and crafts, humanities, privately sponsored bus trips, cards and other activities are planned throughout the year.
IDENTIFICATION CARDS
For reduced fares on public transit systems of Massachusetts through GATRA administrative staff are provided at various times throughout the year. Please consult the newsletter for dates and times.
HOUSING
Assistance is given in finding housing, and referrals are made to the Plymouth Housing Authority.
EMPLOYMENT
Many programs are available through government sponsored and private sector. Included are Citizens for Citizens, Tax Credit Program.
NEWSLETTER
Monthly newsletter contains current programs and services, luncheon menu, up-coming events and other useful information.
AARP TAX-AIDE PROGRAM
Provides volunteer training and assistance to help elders file income-tax forms. Training for this service begins in January of each year. Tax return appointments begin in February and are on-going through April 15th.
