COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – WHAT’S THAT?

Community Development, put simply and broadly, is providing and implementing programs and activities that benefit low and moderate income persons (35% of Plymouth’s town-wide population), including housing and economic development services.

The function of the Community Development Office is to provide education, leadership, policies and programs to expand and preserve safe and affordable housing opportunities and promote a strong community for all residents.

WORKFORCE HOUSING PROGRAM

The objective of this program is to target and rank households of any size, within 60%-80% of the annual median income and who are first-time homebuyers interested in purchasing a home in the Town of Plymouth as their primary residence. Households will be required to perform their own housing search and negotiate the purchase price with seller of an existing or new home in the community.

The American Dream Buy-down program is a product of the Affordable Housing Trust, which comprises of a 7 member board of trustees appointed by the Board of Selectman. This program is primarily designed to address the housing needs of existing residents and Town employees and is directly administered by and through the Town of Plymouth’s Community Development Office.
