Dog Licenses
All dogs older than six months require a license from the Town of Plymouth.
Cost:
Neutered dogs: $10.00
Non-neutered dogs: $20.00

Please note that if you have a pitbull (a.k.a staffordshire terrier) or 4 or more dogs that special licensing requirements apply, please see instructions below.

Payment Options:
To procure an annual dog license you may come to the Town Clerk’s Office,  you may order the license by mail or pay online.

For mail orders, send:
o       A copy of a valid rabies certificate
o       Any name or address corrections
o       A check for payment
o       A self-addressed stamped envelope with .64 cents postage

The Clerk’s Office will return the rabies certificate and provide a dog tag and a license.

To receive future notices by email, please send an email to PSears@townhall.plymouth.MA.US with a your name, address and name of dog(s).
At some times of the year return service may not be immediate as all licenses are valid for a calendar year and expire December 31.


Kennel Permit


KENNEL DEFINITION:

One collection of dogs on a single premises, whether maintained for breeding, boarding, sale training, hunting or other purpose, including more than three dogs, three months old or older.

APPLICATION AND ISSUANCE OF LICENSE AND FEES:

A kennel license shall be issued by the Town Clerk upon written application by an owner or keeper of dogs and after inspection and determination by an Animal Control Officer.   An application fee of one hundred and fifty dollars, ($150.00), shall be required for the initial application; this fee includes the tags for each animal.

Annual renewal fees:
4 to 5 dogs  $50
6 to 9 dogs  $75
10-24 dogs  $150

The Kennel Application must be completed and submitted to the Town Clerk’s Office with the application fee of $150.00.


Pitbulls & Staffordshire Terriers

A Wild Animal Permit is required for all Pitbulls and Staffordshire Terriers
prior to obtaining a dog license.

WILD ANIMAL CLASSIFICATION:

Dangerous or wild animals include the following: all poisonous animals, apes, baboons, bears, bison, cheetahs, crocodilians 24 inches or more, constrictor snakes 36 inches in length or more, coyotes, deer, elephants, game cocks and other fighting birds, hippopotami, hyenas, jaguars, leopards, lions, lynxes, monkeys, ostriches, piranha, pitbulls, pumas, rhinoceroses, sharks, tigers and wolves; provided, however, that the foregoing list is not deemed to be all-inclusive.

CONDITIONS FOR PERMIT ISSUANCE:

 The Board of Selectmen may issue an annual permit for the keeping or maintenance of a dangerous animal upon the following conditions:

  • The animal is kept or maintained at all times in a safe manner and securely confined so that the keeping of such animal shall not constitute a danger to human life or the property of others.       
  • Adequate safeguards are taken to prevent unauthorized access to such animal by other persons.
  • The health or well-being of the animal is not endangered in any way by the manner of keeping or confinement.
  • The keeping of such animal does not constitute a public nuisance and will not adversely affect the surrounding neighborhood.
  • The keeping of such animal will not cause a danger to the public health.
  • The quarters in which such animal is kept or confined are adequately heated, lighted and ventilated and are constructed and maintained in a safe, clean and sanitary condition.
  • The owner or keeper of such animal shall prove his or her financial responsibility by filing with the Board of Selectmen an adequate certificate of insurance or by posting an adequate surety bond with the Board of Selectmen conditioned upon the owner's or keeper's payment of all damages which may result from the keeping or maintenance of such animal.

                Adequacy of proof shall be at the sole discretion of the Board of Selectmen.

A Wild Animals Permit Application must be completed and submitted to the Board of Selectmen with proof of homeowners insurance.  For questions regarding the Wild Animal Permit, please contact the Selectmen’s Office at (508) 747-1620, extension 106.
