The Town of Plymouth secures its right to unpaid property taxes through a tax lien process. There is a list available of all liened properties for a fee of $10. This list is constantly changing as customers and/or banks pay off the amounts due on the liens or the Town becomes the owner of the properties through the foreclosure process. It has been used as a resource for mortgage brokers who contact the property owner in order to offer a new financial package that will allow them to pay off the taxes and enter an escrow agreement with a new lender. It is also a tool for property investors or first-time homebuyers to deal directly with owners who are financially strapped and considering the sale of their property. It is advisable to work with the property owner before the foreclosure because once the Town becomes the owner of the property, we can only sell the property at a public auction and any land that was potentially buildable before the foreclosure, will be deed restricted non-buildable to a successful bidder at the auction.
