Briggs Field Playground Removal
Plymouth, MA - After a recent audit performed by a professional playground inspection company (Innovative Playground Services, Inc.), it has been recommended to remove all playground equipment in this area. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission Public Playground Safety Handbook, the equipment does not meet any playground safety codes or regulations including fall heights, safety zones, non-entanglement zone restrictions, use zones, and equipment dimension recommendations.
Although the structure is still sound, the Town must take swift action to remove the identified hazards. The Briggs Field Playground is the oldest standing playground in the Town of Plymouth with an approximate age of 40 years old.
In response to this unforeseen event, the DPW Parks Division will propose an article for April Annual Town Meeting that will address many safety concerns throughout all Town of Plymouth playgrounds and will include a replacement playground for the Briggs Field Playground. The new playground equipment would be designed to replace the existing equipment with similar “neighborhood playground” charm.
