With the exception of building permits, all other permit applications can be hand-delivered, emailed (see below for details) or dropped in the free-standing "ballot" box at the rear entrance of the building. Building and Alteration permits can be hand-delivered to our office, dropped in the free-standing "ballot" box at the rear entrance of the building or mailed to the Town Hall.  Please put documents in an envelope and mark it "Inspectional Services" to avoid delayed delivery.  Be sure to provide an email address with all submissions; we are emailing all permits when they are issued.  You can find all applications in the "Downloadable Forms" tab to the left.  

We now have an Online Payment portal for all permit fees!  When we receive your application, we will start the permit process.  We will supply you with an application number and the fee amount; you will then click on the "Online Payment" tab to your left on our Inspectional Services page or in "Citizens Action Center" on the main page and follow the prompts.  The following day we receive notification that the fee has been paid, your permit application will then move to "review".  NOTE: Please do not make a payment online without an permit application number. Also, be sure to pay the application fee only ONCE!  If you are not sure that your payment went through, please call our office the day after you've made the payment before you try to submit it again. 

Zoning applications: Applications along with required documents can be emailed to khowley@plymouth-ma.gov and dburke@plymouth-ma.gov for processing.  Permit applications can be found in the "Downloadable Forms" tab to the left.  You will be required to pay the permit fee before we review your application.  Once payment is received, your application will go to review; please allow two weeks for the review process.

Express permit applications: Applications along with required documents can be emailed to khowley@plymouth-ma.gov and dburke@plymouth-ma.gov for processing.  Permit applications can be found in the "Downloadable Forms" tab to the left.  You will be required to pay the permit fee before we issue your permit. Once we receive notification that the fee has been paid, the permit number will be emailed to you soon thereafter; turn-around time is 72 business hours after payment is made. 

Building permit applications:  Please drop off or mail building permit applications along with required documents and sign-offs (click here for addition/renovation checklist) to the Town of Plymouth, Attn: Inspectional Services.  If your project requires a zoning permit, you must receive your zoning approval before submitting your building permit application.  Permit applications can be found in the "Downloadable Forms" tab to the left.  You will be required to pay the permit fee before we review your application.  Once payment is received, your application will go to review; please allow two weeks for the review process.

Building Inspections: Email scheduleinspection@plymouth-ma.gov to schedule your building inspection.  Please provide the property address, application number, type of inspection, the perferred date and your contact information.  **NOTE: For the most part, we will not be inspecting occupied buildings.  You can also call 508-747-1620 x10117 to schedule.

Plumbing, Gas & Wiring Inspections: Email request form to scheduleinspection@plymouth-ma.gov  *NOTE: Your permit must be issued before we can schedule your inspection. We will confirm receipt by email and forward them to the inspectors.  Permit applications and inspection request forms can be found in the "Downloadable Forms" tab to the left.  Please note:  For the most part, we will not be inspecting occupied buildings.  

Plumbing, Gas & Electric permits:  Please drop off, mail or email applications to both Dana and Linda to be priced.    dburke@plymouth-ma.gov  lsealey@plymouth-ma.gov  We will reply within 48 hours with an application number and the fee. Mission Statement

The Building Department is responsible for ensuring that buildings are constructed and repaired safely and buildings, structures and land are used properly.  The Department issues zoning, building, electrical, gas and plumbing permits that allow the construction, reconstruction, repair, alteration and demolition of buildings and structures as well as the installation of equipment.  The Department annually inspects restaurants, lodgings and other places of assembly. The Building Department enforces the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Building Code and the Plymouth By-Laws.  The goal of the Department is to ensure a safe public and private environment for the residents.
