The Crossover at Long Beach is currently open with access for about 20 vehicles; however, there is still bird activity that could reduce or eliminate vehicle access at the Crossover, so check for updates at the Long Beach Information page before heading out to the beach. The piping plover chicks in the immediate area of the Crossover officially fledged today and vehicle restrictions have been lifted for that brood of chicks. There is a least tern nest within 100 yards of the Crossover, and when it hatches, the required vehicle restrictions will cause the Crossover to close again, as well as piping plover nests and/or chicks to the north and south of the Crossover. The Natural Resources staff will continue monitoring nesting activity daily and adjust vehicle restrictions in compliance with the Plymouth Long Beach Management Plan and the state and federal requirements for protected species.
