The Crossover is closed for vehicle access following the hatching of a least tern nest in the vicinity of the Crossover. Least terns are protected by the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act (MESA), and a 100yd vehicle-free buffer is required to avoid a potential "take" under the MESA. The nest that hatched this morning is located less than 100yd from the Crossover, so the vehicle-free buffer includes the Crossover itself. The vehicle-free buffer area will remain in place until the least tern chicks can fly, which takes about 21 days.
