Camping Dates & Lottery
The Long Beach Management Plan allows camping on the beach for a 6-night period each season. Camping is limited to 36 people and 9 vehicles per night. Permits are issued through a lottery. Each permit is issued for up to two nights and can have up to 8 people and 2 vehicles.
The camping dates are determined by shorebird nesting activity, tides, and availability of seasonal Natural Resources staff, however, camping generally takes place in mid- to late August. Because of the variable nature of shorebird nesting, camping dates are determined in early to mid-July when the Natural Resources staff can determine when nesting activities may be completed.
Once the camping dates are determined, the dates for the application period and the camping lottery are determined and advertised. Camping information is posted here on the Town's website and in the Old Colony Memorial, as well as at the beach on the Manter's Point and Crossover shacks.
